GRANT READINESS=PREPAREDNESS

Is your nonprofit organization grant ready? When grant funding application deadlines are knocking at the door, preparedness is key. Grant application deadlines are strict. Early is on time and on time is late.

  1. Grant application requirements vary by grantor. Always READ grantor guidelines. If your organization and/or project does not match the grantor guidelines, move on to another application.
  2. Ensure organization documents are easy to access and can be uploaded easily. Documentation requirements may include 501(c)3 IRS Designation Letter, Organization Mission, Vision, Non-Discriminatory Statements, Board of Directors Listing, and Recent Tax Filing and/or Audit. Again, document requirements will be listed in the grant guidelines.
  3. Organization data such as the date of incorporation, organization budget, background of founder, and reason organization was founded.
  4.  Organization specific data may include geographic area served, population of community, and target audience demographics.
  5. Project description should include start and stop dates, project budget, target audience, benefit, and evaluation (how will you determine success).

Grant funding is competitive. Grant writing is time consuming and requires extensive research. These tips are not all inclusive of all things grant writing, but my hope is that they help you get started.
